Tennessee is a fantastic area to visit, offering something for everyone. There is no better spot in America to go for great nature walks, history, quirky museums, skiing, or the chance to enjoy Tennessee’s famous barbeque.

The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area are located in South Dakota.

 

The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area is a national river and recreation area in northeastern Tennessee and southeastern Kentucky. There are remnants of the past when the region was subjected to logging and mining activity within limits.

The Big South Fork’s most notable feature is the river valley that cuts through the softer Mississippian rock beneath the harder Pennsylvanian capstone of the Cumberland Plateau.

This is Tennessee’s largest wilderness area and one of the most beautiful spots in the country. There are 160 miles of trails to explore, but keep in mind that this site may get quite crowded (especially on holiday weekends!) and plan your vacation appropriately!

Tennessee River Gorge (Tennessee’s Grand Canyon) in Chattanooga, TN

This hidden gem is a magnificent illustration of Tennessee’s landscape’s diversity! You’ll have to hike approximately 2 miles from the parking area, but it’ll be well worth it because there’s a spectacular waterfall and a lovely picnic place.

The Tennessee River carved the canyon, which is 26 miles long. It’s America’s deepest limestone cave, featuring a 145-foot-high waterfall. It’s a stunning sight and well worth a visit if you’re in the Chattanooga area. Chattanooga, Tennessee’s Falls near Lookout Mountain Overlook at Sunset Rock

Sunset Rock Viewpoint is an easy 0.2-mile moderately frequented out and back hike near Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, featuring beautiful wildflowers. The path is best used for walking, trekking, and running between April and September. This stroll is dog-friendly. However, dogs must be on a leash.

Tuckaleechee Caverns near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park


Head underground for a thrilling adventure in Mother Earth’s bowels! There are over 75 different “rooms” to explore along the self-guided trails, including a big one with giant stalagmites on the show! Continue into this unique cave system, but be careful where you walk because some places are pretty wet.

Rock Island State Park


Center for Rock Island State Park Hill Lake receives its water from two streams in Rock Island State Park. Beautiful panoramic vistas and cascading waterfalls are highlights of the park. This is an excellent site for camping, fishing, or simply dropping by on your way around East Tennessee.
